Do you suspect ongoing inflammation in the body? The CRP test is a good test that can detect ongoing inflammation in your body.
CRP test measures the amount of the protein called C-reactive protein (CRP) in the blood. C-reactive protein is produced in the liver as a natural response of the body's defense against attacks by infections and injuries. CRP levels can be greatly increased in your blood during an acute inflammation that may have been caused by autoimmune diseases, surgery, injury or an infection.
What can a CRP test show?
A CRP test can provide several insights into possible inflammation and infection:
- Detect infection early - CRP can indicate early and quickly whether your body is fighting an infection. This makes it possible to prevent spreading.
- In treatment – a CRP test may be used in monitoring treatment of inflammation or disease such as rheumatoid arthritis or inflammatory disease.
- In the case of heredity – CRP can be analyzed in the case of a hereditary predisposition to high CRP levels for early identification and implementation of measures to reduce the risk.
The CRP value can be measured already within the first day of the start of an infection. As soon as you recover, the value goes back to normal again.
