Do you suspect an allergy to cedar?
The allergen in Japanese cedar is a protein called Cry j 1. It is one of several proteins found in the pollen secreted by Japanese cedar and other cedar plants. It is one of several pollens that generally cause allergic reactions in people who are allergic to pollen.
Symptoms of a cedar allergy are, for example, sneezing, runny nose, nasal congestion, itching and red eyes. In severe cases, the allergy can cause breathing problems and asthma.
The allergy test is based on a blood test which may indicate that you are allergic to Japanese cedar. The blood test measures the concentration of IgE antibodies in the blood, which can increase the presence of an allergy. If the results show high levels of IgE antibodies, it is highly likely that you have an allergy or hypersensitivity to cedar pollen.
