Cystatin C is a protein produced by the body's nucleated cells. In the kidney's glomeruli (capillary network), Cystatin C is eliminated by filtration.
Cystatin C value can be measured in order to get an estimate of kidney function. The value is not affected by age, gender and muscle mass or diet.
This is how it works: The test is a blood test that is carried out at the selected sampling unit.
Sample response: You normally have a response within 6 banking days after taking the sample. The test answer is sent digitally to your e-mail. Together with your test results, you will receive a report in English about your values and the doctor's comment.
Remember: Bring valid identification with you when taking the sample.
A blood test measures the level of Cystatin C in the blood and can show how your kidneys are doing and whether you have reduced kidney function, which an elevated value of Cystatin C can indicate. An increased value can also be obtained if you have a cortisone treatment, are pregnant or have hyperthyroidism (overactive thyroid gland).
The symptoms of chronic kidney failure, or chronic kidney failure, develop slowly. They can only appear when kidney function becomes so impaired that waste products begin to accumulate in the blood, then they can express themselves like this:
The marker Cystatin C is also measured in Health checkup Man and Health checkup Woman.
