What happens if I get scared or panic on camera?

It is completely normal to feel anxious or scared before an MRI, especially if you have claustrophobia or are uncomfortable in confined spaces. The MRI scan takes place in a tunnel (the camera), but you are never alone. Staff are available throughout.

If you panic or feel that you cannot continue or just need a break – the scan can be stopped at any time. The staff will then help you get out and take it at your own pace.

We will inform you in advance about how the scan will be done, how long it will take and what to expect. Sometimes you can also ask to lie feet first or use an open MRI camera where available. In some cases, sedatives may be considered in consultation with a doctor, but this is rarely necessary.

Our goal is for the scan to feel as safe and gentle as possible, even for those who find it uncomfortable.
