What is the difference between MRI and MRI?
There is no medical difference between MRI and MRT – both refer to the same type of examination: magnetic resonance tomography. MR is the abbreviation most commonly used in Sweden and stands for "Magnetic Resonance". MRT is more common in German-speaking countries, where it stands for "Magnetresonanstomographie".
In practice, MR and MRT are exactly the same examination – a radiation-free method that uses powerful magnetic fields to create detailed images of the body's internal structures such as the brain, spine, joints and organs.
Other terms used in everyday speech are magnetic camera or magnetic X-ray, although it is not a real X-ray because no X-rays are used.
