What should you wear during an MRI examination?

Before an MRI scan, it is important that you do not wear anything with metal, as the examination is based on strong magnetic fields. You may therefore be asked to change into hospital clothes that do not contain metal parts such as zippers, buttons or hooks. You do not need to take off your underwear.

This also applies to makeup, hairpins, jewelry, piercings, watches and other metal objects that must be removed before the examination. Some materials can also affect the image quality, even if they are not dangerous.

For some examinations, such as of the foot or arm, you can keep your own clothes as long as they do not contain metal in the relevant area. The final assessment is always made by the staff on site, who ensure that the examination is as safe and clear as possible. A good recommendation is comfortable clothing with short sleeves and softer material on trousers, as well as underwear.
