How is an MRI done?
A MRI scan or MRI screening is not actually an X-ray and you are not exposed to radiation, which makes it harmless. The examination is performed in a so-called magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), a tunnel with strong magnetic fields and radio waves. After placing an order, a referral will be sent and you will receive a summons within about 7 working days.
Here's how it works:
- You must first change into metal-free clothing and remove jewelry, watches and any makeup, so you are not naked during the examination.
- You lie still on a bed that is inserted into the MRI scanner. In some cases, you lie head or feet first, depending on what is to be examined.
- The examination usually takes 15–30 minutes, but may take longer for more extensive scans.
- The camera is loud, but you will be given hearing protection, earplugs or music on headphones.
After the examination, a specialist doctor will review the images and you will receive your report within a few days. The entire procedure is safe, secure and does not require any recovery time.
